No !!!!!!!!!!
DDR and DDR2 is not compatible with the Inspiron 5000th This is an old laptop that uses PC100 SDRAM (mandatory). the maximum amount of memory can hold is that 2 x 256 MB.

This is triggered RAM, that in your laptop.
Important: If you buy a module of 256 MB, you have 16 chips (256-module with 8 chips do not work). Since the chipset used does not recognize the RAM chips with high density.
a module of 128 MB with 8-chips work well.

Here's the problem with Dell computers.
They are above all the hardware is only by them, then have to buy from them, can cost hundreds. Especially with older machines ...
I had a friend, a high-end PCs could be built with the money bought a 1 GB of RAM from Dell with that.

BTW, the laptop RAM and has 4 banks of memory free?
